ASME says goodbye and congratulations to our seniors!

This past Friday, over forty ASME’rs and friends gathered at Vilas park to play some kickball and grill out as a goodbye to our graduating seniors. We got to the park by three and were playing kickball by four. After darkness rolled in, we moved the group to Ben and Aaron’s house and continued the good times. The event was a ton of fun (despite our lack of condiments for the burgers and hot dogs, sorry guys!) and was a great way to celebrate the end of another semester and wish our graduating seniors’ well for the future!

ASME will miss a huge chunk of our members next semester to graduation. Seven officers will be leaving our board, along with many more general members. The officers graduating are:

• Aaron Schmitz, Vice Chair, who will be working full time for GE Aviation
• Jon Guay, Secretary, who will be working full time for Flint Hills Resources
• Muhammad Alvi, Outreach Chair, who will be starting his masters program at UW - Madison this fall
• Emmett Nienhaus, Conference Chair, who will be working full time for Miniature Precision Components
• Chad Van De Hey, Webmaster, who will be working full time for Intuit
• Ben Wortmann, Banquet Chair, who will be working for Marathon Petroleum
• Emily Keuler, Historian, who will be starting her masters program at UW - Madison this fall 

Congratulations to our graduates and to everyone for completing another successful semester! Best of luck in the future!

Those of us sticking around for another year or more got together and surprised our graduates, each sporting a party hat with an embarrassing photo of a senior of them (except for Chad, who just always looks so good in pictures that no one had an embarrassing photo of him. Instead, Henry wore Jeremy Renner on his hat).

ASME’s Annual trip to a Milwaukee Brewers game!

This April, ASME made our annual trip to Miller Park for a Milwaukee Brewers game! We had a full bus of forty-five students and friends in attendance for the day and had a ton of fun! We got to Miller park a few hours before the start of the game and had a great time grilling out and hanging out. Grillmaster Emmett served up some great hot dogs and hamburgers without the use of spatula and we had a great spread of chips, dips, and other snacks (minus the guacamole…. My bad guys!). Throughout the course of the afternoon, ASME’rs enjoyed some friendly competition over bags, chatted with our awesome and interesting bus driver, Chris, and overall had a great time despite the almost freezing April weather.

We headed into the game as the sun was going down, pretty quickly after the start. From this point, the group split with some of us headed into Friday’s to enjoy some appetizers while watching the game before heading to our seats. We stayed for the end of the game and cheered the Brewers on until the end! Though unfortunately we caught their only loss to the Astro’s in the series, we still had an amazing afternoon in Milwaukee!

ASME First Annual Ski Trip!

This past February, ASME held its first ever (in recent memory) ski trip! We had a great turnout for the event - twenty-six ASME’rs and friends headed out to Tyrol Basin for a Friday afternoon on the slopes. Our skill levels ranged from complete beginner to very experienced skiers and snowboarders and regardless of prior knowledge, everyone in attendance had snow much fun!

We met at the Engineering Centers Building and carpooled to Tyrol basin, arriving around 3:30pm and skiing or snowboarding by 4. A couple of our new skiers and snowboarders took advantage of Tyrol’s free lessons while those of us who were a bit out of practice got a tip (or twenty) from more experienced attendees (thanks guys!). I was in the latter group and had a good wipe out or two before really finding my footing. We stayed at Tyrol and skied until 9PM with one short break for cheese curds and fries and left completely worn out from all the skiing and laughs. Overall, it was a very successful ski trip and we look forward to continuing the event in the future!
